See how a starting balance plus regular monthly savings grows over time in a Sri Lankan savings account.

Total contributed

LKR 1,000,000

Interest earned

LKR 215,656

Future value

LKR 1,215,656

How this is calculated

Future value = Starting balance × (1 + r)^n + PMT × ((1 + r)^n − 1) / r

Where r is the monthly interest rate and n is the number of months. Interest earned = Future value − Total contributed.

Frequently asked questions

Savings account or fixed deposit?

A savings account gives easy access but a lower rate. A fixed deposit locks funds for a set period at a higher rate. Many people use both.

How often does interest compound?

Most Sri Lankan savings accounts calculate interest daily and credit it monthly. This calculator assumes monthly compounding.

Should I save or invest?

Emergency savings and short-term goals belong in a savings account. Long-term goals (5+ years) usually deliver better after-inflation returns from diversified investments.

Are savings account balances safe?

Deposits in licensed Sri Lankan banks are protected under the Sri Lanka Deposit Insurance Scheme up to specified limits per depositor per bank.
